The Biloxi Shuckers, Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, returned to MGM Park in Biloxi last night for their home series opener hosting the Mississippi Braves in front of 3,052 baseball fans. The Shuckers are off to a good start this year with some new faces on the roster along side some familiar ones too. Returning for another campaign with Biloxi was pitcher Luis Ortiz, who fanned 8 in 6 shutout innings, looked really sharp on the hill. Newcomer Corey Ray scored in the 1st inning after Braves catcher Alex Jackson allowed a passed ball. The insurance run for The Shuckers came in the 8th when Corey Ray motored for a triple, then Troy Stokes, Jr. drove him in with a single to left. Another newcomer to Biloxi, RHP Nate Griep picked up his 3rd save in 3 up/3 down fashion to close out the game. Overall it was a good night of baseball that ended with another fantastic fireworks show in downtown Biloxi.
Game 2 of the series is tonight at 6:35p.
